After 5
weeks on the DL, Rice junior Ryan Berry returned to the
mound this week; earlier this season, Berry had a run of 3
straight complete games where he didn’t allow a single earned
run; then an injury shortly after that stretch sidelined him
until now…

Missouri
junior Kyle Gibson broke the triple-digit-K mark this
week while picking up his 8th win; Gibson’s 107 K’s
is good for 7th on Missouri’s single-season strikeout
list and his 280 career strikeouts stands at 3rd
all-time; with two more projected starts, Gibson should move
even higher on those lists…

Although
Arizona State junior Mike Leake fell just shy of the
century mark for K’s (96), he still remains virtually
unbeatable; Leake notched his 11th win to keep his
streak of victories going; for those keeping score, that streak
is now a win every week since day 1…

San Diego
State’s Stephen Strasburg moved past the century mark
long ago and continues to add significantly to that number; this
week Strasburg pitched 8 innings of shutout baseball, allowing
only 3 hits while issuing only 2 walks and fanning 12 of the 26
batters he faced; his K/IP is now a ridiculous 1.88…

Riverside junior Joe Kelly hadn’t allowed more than 1
earned run in a game this year until this past week; Kelly made
14 prior appearances and allowed a total of 6 earned runs; he
allowed a total of 6 earned runs during this past week alone to
match his season total…

While
analyzing the stats, we noticed that Arizona junior Dwight
Childs doesn’t whiff very often; so to quantify that
assertion, we devised a ratio to see how often our guys were
striking out; we crunched the stats and here’s our list of the
“Toughest Guys to Strikeout”:

together, those 3 form the nucleus for the Titan’s offense and
all 3 are showing great success; enough success to lead their
team into BA’s Top 10, #6 actually, heading into the final two
weeks of the season…

Tech sophomore Derek Dietrich celebrated his first 3-HR
week on the year…

Fresno State junior Tommy Mendonca celebrated his 2nd
4-HR week of the year; Mendonca now sits on 20 HR’s for the
season…
