WEEKLY COLLEGE UPDATE FOR FORMER TEAM USA PLAYERS

WEEKLY RECAP: 3/23/2009

  • How about that World Baseball Classic championship game? How can the USOC keep baseball out of the Olympics after this? Hope they were watching the live feeds from the packed stadium in Seoul Korea... but I digress...
  • So far this year, the highlights are owned by the pitchers, with very few exceptions…
  • The string of amazing outings for Rice junior Ryan Berry comes to an end; after 3 straight complete games without an earned run, Berry gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits in a 5-inning outing where he failed to strikeout a single batter after ringing up 28 over his last 3 outings; Berry still managed to get the win to make it 4 straight on the year…
  • We just can’t say enough good things about Missouri junior Kyle Gibson; he notched his 4th win of the year after his second straight complete game and third straight game with double-digit K’s (13, 11, and 16)…
  • Arizona State junior Mike Leake also went the distance in a 9-inning gem that saw him fan 15 batters while allowing only 1 run on 5 hits; Leake is now 5-1 on the year with a sparse 1.35 ERA…
  • But as good as the other pitchers have been, San Diego State junior Stephen Strasburg is still head-and-shoulders above the pack; Strasburg took an incredibly tough no-decision in a game that he went 7-innings, facing 23 batters, striking-out 15 while allowing only 2 hits and no runs; Strasburg now has 74 K’s in just over 34 innings pitched against 122 batters faced; the ratio’s are staggering; there’s no way this guy doesn’t go #1 overall in June…
  • After a slow start, San Diego junior A.J. Griffin is starting to heat up; Griffin notched his 2nd straight win going 8IP allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits while fanning 10…
  • CS-Fullerton sophomore Christian Colon takes the lead in runs scored and hits after a stellar week; Colon was 8-for-13 with 2 2B’s, 1 3B, 5 RBI and 2 SB’s…
  • Ryan Jackson, Miami junior, displayed some power this week while going 6-for-18 with 3 HR’s and 11 RBI…
  • Fresno State junior Tommy Mendonca continues his slugfest after a 5-for-15 week that saw him belt 2 HR’s and 3 RBI, giving him 5 HR’s and 12 RBI’s over the past 2 weeks…
  • Auburn sophomore Hunter Morris also logged 2 jacks this week; Morris’ bat has yet to really come around when compared to his freshman year when he led the team with a 0.351 AVG; however his power production is a little bit ahead of where he was last year at this time…
  • WEEKLY DINGERS:

  • There's so much more that we just can't get to, but the weekly and season stats below should give you an idea of who else is hot and who's not; check back next week for more updates...

  • Check out our ebay store as we carry several of the players featured below and will be listing much more throughout the upcoming week!
