Week 8 wrapped-up; just over 1-month left in regular season

Missouri
junior Kyle Gibson is proving to be quite the workhorse;
Gibson logged his 4th complete game this past Friday
making it 4 out of the past 5 weeks he’s gone the distance; in
9-innings of work, Gibson gave up 3 runs on 9 hits while fanning
6 to pick-up a much needed win after two straight weeks with
losses…

San Diego
junior A.J. Griffin makes it 6 straight wins after
starting the season 0-1 after 3 appearances…

Mike Leake,
Arizona State junior ace, notched his 2nd complete
game of the year while logging his 8th win; Leake
allowed 3 runs on 8 hits while fanning 12 and walking 1; this
marks the 5th start that he hit double-digit K’s in a
game…

Vanderbilt
junior Mike Minor is making our heads spin; just two
weeks ago we touted a great win as a signal that he was turning
it around only to be made liars as the next week saw him turn in
one of his worst outings; well, this past week he looked pretty
good again, going 8 innings and allowing no runs on 4 hits,
fanning 11 and walking only 3; will the real Mike Minor please
stand up, please stand up, please sta…?

Oregon
State sophomore Greg Peavey saw a nice run he had going
over the past 3 weeks snapped; Peavey got tagged for his 2nd
loss of the year after giving up 6 runs on 7 hits over 3
innings; over the previous 3 weeks, he pitched 18.1 innings
allowing 5 runs on 12 hits and fanning 13 en-route to 2 wins and
a no-decision…

San Diego
State junior Stephen Strasburg followed up a CBO with 6
solid innings allowing no runs on 3 hits and fanning 13; this is
the 7th of 8 weeks that Strasburg has logged at least
11 K’s; his K/IP is 1.98, one of the highest ever seen in
college baseball…

Baylor
sophomore Shawn Tolleson got back on the mound after more
than 2 weeks without an appearance; Tolleson went 2 innings
giving up 1 run on 1 hit, fanning 3 while walking 2…

2nd
straight week CS-Fullerton senior Jared Clark and
Tennessee sophomore Kentrail Davis hit HR’s…

Fellow
Fullerton junior Josh Fellhauer posted another great week
at the plate going 10-for-21 to remain atop the group as well as
the CS-Fullerton squad with a .419 cumulative average…

USC junior
Grant Green notched 2 3B’s this week during a 8-for-17
stretch; Green has 4 triples this year…

Auburn
sophomore Hunter Morris displayed his power this week
going 5-for-15 with 2 HR’s; marks the 3rd multi-HR
week for Morris who has 8 total…

This is
the first week since the first week of the season that Fresno
State junior Tommy Mendonca has not hit at least one HR;
during that time he has 12 roundtrippers and 38 RBI’s; 4 of
those 6 weeks were multi-HR weeks...

No Shows:
Ryan Berry (3rd week); Josh Thrailkill (4th
week); Victor Sanchez (2nd week); Tommy Medica
(presumably out for the season)
